trips - Ghost o' Masten Halloween Bonehead EncampmentTrip Info
Description(this is a LEAVE NO TRACE event, the goal is to leave Masten as we found Masten, or even better.) Carpooling is strongly encouraged as much as possible due to limited parking. update - Bobo was kind enough to reserve a keg. Donations are encouraged and accepted. Thanks bobo. As much as possible, beer should be drank from nalgenes or cups. update 10/18/06 (dang, it's the 18th already) - we have potties for the poop!!!!! thanks AmyG! Donations encouraged and accepted. update 10/12/06 I plan on arriving late thursday night. who else plans on arriving Thursday night? update 10/4/06 - campsite D is now reserved, thanks to AmyG FIRES: approval for having a campfire is pending at this time. It all depends on fire risk. Ranger said if there has been a lot of rain before the trip, it will be ok to have a fire, but approval needs to be had first. I will keep you all posted on this. update: 9/7/06 - we now have a 4th campsite reserved! I also got a group permit from the DCNR yesterday. Thanks to Capn Bobo We currently have campsites A, B, C, D and E reserved. ------- URL=http://community.webshots.com/photo/1341310146053232647IZXVAG] Picture of the camping area in Masten. more area photos - Old Loggers Path and area waterfalls. The festivities will include three days and two nights of carcamping, a cook-off, jam, hiking, fishing (if allowed, RichB?), bushwhacking, waterfall tours and much more. Three campsites A, B, and C have been reserved in the old ghost town of Masten, which now serves as a primitive camping area. Please note, there are no facilities here and normal backcountry LNT rules apply. We will be a large group, so we must, without exception, be respectful of this natural place. There are 10 people allowed per site, so I have room for 30 people on this trip. If we need more space, I will need someone to call the Loyalsock SF ranger office and reserve another campsite, ph# is 570-923-6011. Hiking will be on the Old Loggers Path. Bushwhacking will be along the famous Rock Run, with it's beautiful waterfalls, flumes and chasms. We will hold a back country cook-off and if you're a musician, bring the guitar, fiddle, banjo, autoharp, mouth organ or whatever, we will have a Saturday evening jam session for some ole fashioned pickin and stompin. (if Pennsy goes, I promise not to sing any celine dion). Perhaps Yam will lead us in a chorus of Benny and the Jets by Elton John. Everyone is responsible for the their own food and lodging (meaning tents). Directions to Masten, PA from Williamsport, PA The road into Masten is a dirt road and it is rural, windy, narrow, rutted and the shoulders are sometimes washed out. Please use caution while driving on this road. When you get to Masten, first you will see the traditional trailhead for the Old Loggers Path on your right (if your approach is from PA 14) and shortly after is the driveway to the camping area. - some people may arrive on Thursday night. I will reserve sites that night too. Let me know.
