trips - Sheltowee Trace Section HikeTrip Info
DescriptionThe Plan I called Pickett. They are open New Years weekend. On Friday, the 29th, I will drive to Pickett State Park in Tennessee and camp in their campground. PSP is on state road 154, northeast of Jamestown, Tn, and bordering the northwest corner of the Tennessee segment of Big South Fork. I believe the campground is just off the highway. When you get to the campground, look for my red Pontiac Sunfire, with Indiana Plates that read "GAME 04", or my green Henry Shires Tarptent. I'll try to leave a note on a bulletin board near the park office. I should be there mid-afternoon. If someone gets there before me, please leave a note so I can find you, and call me on your cell if you can. My number is 765-271-4857. If I have time Friday, I might drive over to Terry Cemetary trailhead and hike up to Maude's Crack and John Muir overlooks. Saturday, we shuttle a vehicle or two to Peters Mt trailhead, and then come back to Pickett. We can do some dayhiking or we can hit the trail right away. Camp along Rock Creek after about 5 or 6 miles. Sunday, continue northbound, past Great Meadow campground and Hemlock Grove picnic site. Find a suitable site between Hemlock Grove and Mark Branch Trail. Set up camp and dayhike the Mark Branch/Gobblers Arch loop if there is time. Monday is a short 2 mile hike out, shuttle to cars, and post-hike breakfast. Call me at 765 453 7893 (home) or 765 271 4857 (cell) email scottfchr@aol.com
