trips - 07 Linville Gorge, NC January JauntTrip Info
DescriptionPLACE: Linville Gorge in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina Friday: Car camp at Babel Tower Trail head; this along the old NC105 (Kistler Memorial Highway) and accessible by any style of vehicle. There is a campsite big enough for the group to camp. There are plenty of day hiking trails close by and we shouldn’t promote a night hike into the Gorge for late arrivals. Friday evening will be a social event as always. Saturday: We could car-shuttle down the Kistler Memorial Highway to the Conley Cove trailhead and drop half of automobiles double up and continue on to "THE PINCH IN TRAIL" This is a short but very steep unmarked trail that leads straight down into the Gorge. I think it is a little less than 1.5 miles to the river. We then would take the Linville Gorge trail about 3 miles or so to the Conley Cove trail intersection and set up camp. I think this spot would be large enough for us. Sunday: We will hike out on the Conley Cove trail 1.0 miles to the cars. Reverse shuttle back to the other cars and depart. I would highly recommend that we do a brunch at "Louise’s Famous Rockhouse Restaurant". This place is very close to the Gorge and is unique since it sits in three counties and the food is rather good.
