trips - Adventure Hiking TrailTrip Info
DescriptionUpdate 05/29/07: All signs are point to us having to cache water. I'll have a 5 gallon container and maybe some 2 liters but I'd recommend everyone brining their own. We'll meet up at trail head 5 and go to cache water. The first night's can be cached at trail head 1. I'm not sure about the second night, maybe trail head 9 unless someone has a better map showing a road that's not on mine. I'm not sure if Indian creek's going to be that viable, might be pretty tough to get to. Proposed Route: Friday: Arrive at trail head 5/F around 10:00/10:30 AM Hike approx. 8.7 miles West/Southwest (counterclockwise to Ohio River shelter #10.) This shelter is 1.1 miles from trail head A for anyone that wants to join up with us Friday night or Saturday morning. Saturday: Continue hike for approx. 6.9 miles to Indian Creek Shelter #7/H Sunday: Finish hike approx 4.7 miles back to cars at trail head 6/F The trail heads/camp sites are marked with numbers on some maps and letters on others. This route will allow Friday night/Saturday morning joiners to hook up with us at trail head A or # 1 depending on what map you're using. It's about a 1.3 mile hike from the trail head to the Ohio River Shelter #10. I am definitely open to any suggestions as I've never hiked this trail. From what I've read we will probably need to cache water (though I said that once on the Knobstone and it rained 6 inches the first day). Stay tuned for more details. Disclamer: This trail is famous for being poorly marked and I am famous for getting lost in my own back yard. I accept no responsability and will pay no costs associated with getting people back home should we winde up in Alabama some how. ;) Here's some good info: http://www.backpackcamp.com/Harrison.html http://www.trails.com/trail_reviews.asp?trailid=HGM055-033 Map: http://www.backpackcamp.com/HarrisonMap.html
