trips - Late Summer BlastTrip Info
DescriptionThree spots open!! KEEP YOUR STATUS UPDATED! The Early Summer Blast (ESB) lived up to its name - it was a total blast! So we decided that we needed to do it again after Labor Day. Our backwoods campsite with private beach access will only accomodate @ ten tents so this trip will be limited to the first ten that sign up. I've decided to name this campsite for ease of reference. The name I've chosen is Camp Bliss. One, because my son came in from Ft. Bliss for the ESB trip and his 21st birthday and two, because the definition of bliss is "superlative happiness and joy" and "a cause of delight". This aptly describes some of the feelings we experienced at ESB. No one word would describe them all. Last time, we camped at Pisgah Point on Friday night and hiked to Camp Bliss from there, @ 9 miles. This time, we'll base camp at Camp Bliss and explore the Canal Loop each at our own leisure and pace. The Canal Loop has 14 miles of trail that are connected by intersecting trails. Therefore, you can hike the whole loop or just portions of it. Half of the trail parallels Kentucky Lake and the other half is on Barkley Lake. Directions to Camp Bliss: From the North Welcome Station, take connector D on the Canal Loop trail. The connector trails have yellow blazes. When D intersects with the Canal Loop Trail (blue blaze), turn right. After you turn, it's about .75 miles to the site. The trail is used by mountain bikes so it is well defined and easy to follow. You'll go up and down a couple of hills and will be on the cliff line with Kentucky Lake on your left side. Camp Bliss is the first flat piece of land that is at water level. If you get to connector C, you've gone to far. Fifthmaster, my husband, will join us via boat and bring in ice, a grill or fish cooker and other assorted items as deemed necessary. We'll set up a rendez vous point for you to load guitars and other needed items onto the boat. If you want to do this, let me know when you'll get there so we can coordinate a time. Dinner on Friday and Saturday night and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday will be provided. Bring your own lunch and snacks.
