Description

When:
Friday, October 5, 2007, 5:00 PM to Oct 8th 2007

Where:
Grand Canyon
Rim Drive
Grand Canyon , AZ
Description:
WHEN: 10/05. Note that this is COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND. You might have three days off. We will be car-pooling to Mother's campsite Sage loop #3 after work.

LEVEL: Begining to Advanced. Advanced for those who are able to hike 15 miles with elevation gain 5000 ft in one day or you could just come alone car-camp.

Beginner...you are not alone. There is someone lead the easlier route. Perhpas you could do your own pace along the South Rim with other tours.

Backpackers...bring your pack and hike with us down the river and camp for over-night fun.

EVENT: This is a car camping trip and long day hike into the heart of the Grand Canyon. The scenery is amazing, such that it's been called one of the greatest wonders of the natural world.

ABOUT THE HIKE: We'll descend the South Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch, then return by Bright Angel Trail. The total distance is over 14 miles, with close to 5,000 feet of climb on the return half. October is a milder season there, but we still could have very hot or cold weather.

REQUIREMENTS: To sign up LONG DAY HIKE or over night backpacking down the river, you must be in good condition, and have experience day hiking comparable distances and elevation gain at a moderate pace. For example, if you'd be comfortable hiking Half Dome or San Gorgonio Mountain on a hot summer day, you'll be fine here. You should do your homework, and come prepared to hike out on your own, in case of emergency - I'll supply maps, trail descriptions and more information as the date gets nearer. We'll keep a moderate pace, but enjoy the scenery.

You could also just come for the ride if you just in for car-camp...if you are beginner hiker, perhaps there is always someone could do the lead something easy on the trip or you could tour around the South Rim on your own paces with other tours....

SCHEDULE:

Friday: I'll arrive and check in to our camp sites in the day time. Arrive when your schedule allows - we'll set up car pools if possible. We can meet and socialize, and hopefully get a good night's sleep.

Saturday: We'll wake early for the hike, and ride a shuttle from the campground to the trailhead. Lunch around the Colorado River. Afterward we can celebrate with dinner and drinks back at camp.

Sunday: Easy loop around South Rim...or drive to local place for discovery.....

Monday: Sleep in and drive home, maybe do a bonus hike if there's interest. The campground and village area have many interpretive exhibits if you'd like to learn more about the canyon and its history.

FEES/COSTS: There will be a Deposit of $25 when you sign up and nonrefundable only when you show up at campsite. Then only $5 per person per night. PLEASE SEND YOUR $25 DEPOSIT to P.O.Box 1203 Sierra Madre Ca 91025. Attention: LILI. Also keep in mind there's an entrance fee of $25 per vehicle to enter Grand Canyon National Park - you'll be on your own to pay this. Carpoolers should of course arrange a fair division of gas costs and the entrance fee.

More Information. Confirmed participants will be emailed more information as the trip gets closer.

This trip is cross posting with ODC, OC backpackers, Rockclimber USA and Meetup girls night out and more groups.....we are looking for a huge turnout max. 50 pp.

Call 626-354-2880 LILI for any questions. Thank you!
