trips - Red River Gorge Suicide Run (ROCK CLIMBING)Trip Info
DescriptionThis is a climbing trip. We are going to pile in a car (or cars if there are too many people) in Chicagoland on Friday evening after work and arrive at the gorge late in the evening. We'll crash somewhere for a few hours, then climb all day Saturday until we can't climb anymore. We'll return drive Saturday evening. The goal is to get down to RRG for a day of climbing without having to take time off from work or do a lot of camping.... fast and light. I'll be posting a list of routes we plan to hit. I am thinking a few 5.8/5.8+ routes plus a few 5./10 routes. I would like to do a trad line or two but I recognize most will want to stick to bolted sport routes. I am open to suggestions. I am thinking some (not all) of the routes below: Drop the Anchor (Eastern Sky Bridge Ridge, Eastern Gorge) - 5.8+, 60 ft, 5 bolts Jack in the Pulpit (Eastern Sky Bridge Ridge, Eastern Gorge) - 5.10d, 70 ft, 7 bolts Face up to that Crack (Left Flank, Gray's Branch) - 5.8-, 70 ft, 6 bolts Brother Stair (Left Flank, Gray's Branch) - 5.9, 40 ft four bolts Fast Food Christians - 5.10a (Left Flank, Gray's Branch) - 5.8-, 60 ft, 6 bolts Dyn-o-mite (The Great Arch, Muir Valley) - 5.9, 85 ft, 10 bolts Black Powder (The Great Arch, Muir Valley) - 5.10b, 85 ft, 10 bolts ...just some ideas. We can talk about the lines and get it down to just a few, hopefully in the same area. I have climbed Brother Stair, Food Christains, and Face up to that Crack. They are all really fun routes. I have not climbed any of the other routes.
