trips - Freezin' in Wisconsin WeekendTrip Info
DescriptionCross Country Ski/Snowshoe/Hiking trip. A good friend of mine who will remain nameless told me once that when one is winter camping that there is a thin line between survival and having a good time. Well, I am up for walking this thin line this year and am praying for some REAL SNOW! This trail system is great for hiking, especially with a family. There are two fairly nice shelters with fire pits/etc. Lots of wood. Lots of fun! These are fantastic ski trails. Friday Night: Meet at Pigeon Creek Campground. Camp however/wherever you want. Stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Black River Falls if you wish. Saturday: Meet at Smrekar Trailhead. Ski/hike/showshoe Red Oak, North, and/or Central loops (time permitting). These are all intermediate ski trails. Overnight at Red Oak Shelter. Sunday: Pack up and have a group breakfast (I know a GREAT place). Hot coffee, steak & eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc. Put back the calories we lost! Return home. Makes you wish you were 8 again! There are "pool rooms" that open up onto the pool. There are "pool view" rooms that open onto a balcony that overlook the pool.  Note: We'll make sure people have instructions on how to get to a parked vehicle with a key in case of an emergency. There is also a Holiday Inn Express in Black River Falls (great pool!) in case of a bailout. You are welcome (encouraged even) to stay there and still join in on the fun. A permit is require for each vehicle that will be at the trailhead as well as a headcount for the group. The permit is free and I can apply via mail as the date gets closer.
