DescriptionThis year's Freeze-yer-ass-off adventure will take us to "Hurricane Mountain Primitive Area," home of Big Crow, Little Crow, Hurricane and Weston Mountains. Basecamp will be a fairly-level jaunt into Gulf Brook lean-to, where there is a reliable water source. It may or may not be frozen, since it is moving water. It's always better if we can find water, rather than waste a lot of fuel melting snow. Anyhoo, dayhike options are great from this site, with Hurricane Mtn as one option and the Nun-da-ga-o Ridge another. Nun-da-ga-o is listed as "expert" level in Winter, due to some rather treacherous cliff drop-offs and an unmarked trail. Crampons would be a must for this option. Hurricane Mtn is a fairly nice walk-up, but, as the name suggests, the summit is completely exposed. So...everyone come prepared to freeze yer a$$ off and we'll be fine. ;)  I'll be making contact with the local ranger to find out trailhead access conditions, as we get closer to d-day. At this time, there is a nice amount of snow on the ground, so start polishing your snowshoes and sleds!!
