trips - Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park in JanuaryTrip Info
DescriptionMammoth Cave in January! This should be a good trip for beginners and experience hikers alike. This trail is pretty easy and can be done with a little snow. Weather will be a factor and I will be watching it to make sure the hike is doable. Friday Night - meet at the campgrounds. (Yes, they will be open!) We will probably get a group site, depending on the size of the group. Saturday -We will travel by car to the Good Springs Church Trailhead. We will need to take the Green River Ferry across the river. (Green River Ferry operates year-round, 6:00am-9:55pm.) Hike to Sal Hollow Back Country Camp Site. You decide how much hiking you want to do. Sal Hollow can be reach a couple of different ways, so hiking can be as little as ~4 miles or as many as ~8 miles. (More if you want to) If you are planning on meeting up on Saturday Morning, Plan on being at the trailhead by 10 AM. EST There is also one or two caves along the trail that some might enjoy checking out. Bring some rope and a headlight. Saturday Night - Camp at Sal Hollow. Sunday - Hike out ~4 miles to car. We can go to the Lodge for food afterwards. This is a loop trail, so no shuttling required.
