trips - Red River Gorge Marathon Hike IITrip Info
DescriptionTHIS HIKE CAN BE DANGEROUS: This hike is inherently dangerous and the risk of death or serious injury can never be completely eliminated. It is up to each individual to make his or her own choices regarding acceptable risk. By signing up for this trip you acknowledge that you recognize these risks and are prepared to be responsible for your own safety. Friday night: Converge at Tunnel Ridge Road. Stage shuttle. Camp. No easy water so make sure to have a few jugs of H2O in your cars... but cars will be close at hand. Saturday: Begin hike at Martin's Fork Trailhead. Hike Rough Trail and Swift Camp Creek Trail. Daypacks only. This is a rough (but fun) 17 miles, especially Swift Camp Creek Trail. Saturday night: Return to Tunnel Ridge Road. Party time! it would be cool to do some real cooking... steaks, 'taters, etc. See if we can get one of the better TT chefs to actually attend this trip. You know who you are! Sunday morning: Visit some arches in the area (Silvermine arch, etc) or perhaps get in some sport climbing at Left Flank or Military Wall. Credit is due: Crash Bang set up this same trip and it was a huge success. I am ripping off his trip plan and changing a few things. Bring a map and compass. Know how to use them. These trails are fairly easy to navigate, esp the Rough Trail, but there are a few spots on Swift Camp Creek Trail that can be tricky.
