DescriptionThis is one of my favorite sections of the AT and if you have never seen it before, it is well worth the trip. This is a good section for newer hikers as it is relatively easy and the sections are short. The high elevation should bring us some cool weather. I think my wife will be joining me on this trip as well as a few friends that don't do too much backpacking. Carvers Gap to US19E (Roan Highlands) (13.7 miles) Friday (September 26th) Either A.) Park at Carvers Gap and meet at Roan High Knob Shelter (1.5 miles SOBO from Carvers Gap – Highest Shelter on the AT) Or B.) Meet at Mountain Harbor B&B Hostel (on US19E) Saturday (September 27th) (If we went to Roan High Knob Shelter hike back down to Carvers Gap(1.5 miles) or if we met at Mountain Harbor shuttle to Carvers Gap) Hike from Carvers Gap to Overmountain Shelter (5 miles) Sunday (September 28th) Hike from Overmountain Shelter to US19E (8.7 miles) *****Option***** It has been suggested that we camp at Bradly Gap (In between Little Hump Mountain and Big Hump Mountain) instead of staying at Overmountain Shelter.
