trips - Two Lakes LoopTrip Info
DescriptionThe trail is easy to very moderate, and there will be options for the amount of mileage. The entire loop is 12 miles, 16 if you include the connector trail, which is half way through. You could truly hike your own hike. The trip is open to all, and would be a good one for new hikers, or those who just want lots of peace and quiet with out loads of miles. This is also open to anyone wanting to bring a canoe or kayak and paddle into the campsite on Saturday. There is a very good place to boat right up to the area. Bring your fishing gear. There is a great place to swim at Saturday’s campsite. Friday we will meet at the campgronds. I will be getting there early and reserving as many as we need. I have decided to go this route because we are having a few people who are bringing canoes and kayaks to boat across the lake and it would be better for them to be able to keep an eye on there boats Friday night. Saturday, we will pack up and head out by 10 AM. That way anyone wanting to join us on Saturday morning, can. There will be three different hikes that can be taken. The longest trail Starts from Friday’s camp heading north, then west around Indian Lake. This hike is approximately 9 miles. Another Choice is to head north then east toward the Rickenbaugh House and Lake Celina. This hike is approximately 7. The shortest hike starts south then heads east over the dam of Lake Celina and is about 3 miles. There is the Rickenbaugh Interpretive Trail, located near Lake Celina behind the historic Rickenbaugh House. It is 1 mile in length. If anyone wants to do the whole loop it would be about 13 miles from Friday's campsite to Saturday's campsite. Sunday each hiker can decide how much he/she wants to hike to get back to there car. For those who want to grab some lunch afterwards, we will head about 8-10 miles from the park to the Overlook Restaurant, located on the Ohio River. It has a wonderful view, the food is great and the prices reasonable. (plus they let hiking in, lol) There will be plenty of water available at Saturday's campsite, but will need to be treated. There may or may not be any along the way, depending on how much rain we have had around the time of the hike and which trail you take, so be prepared. Indian-Celina National Rec. Area is located in extreme southern Indiana between Evansville and Louisville just a couple miles South of I-64. Directions - From I-65 go west on I-64 for approximately 43 miles to I-37. Take I-37 for approximately 22 miles to I-66. Take I-66 for approximately 11/2 miles. Park entrance is on the right. There is a $5 fee per night for cars entering the park, or you can park right at the gate house and walk in for free. Maps are also available at the gate free of charge. Here's a link to some good info on the park: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/hoosier/recreation/two_lakes_trail.htm Both of these lakes do not allow gas powered boats, so it is very quiet and clean which is refreshing. Map of trail and campsites - (We will be at the campgrounds Friday night not the spot marked on map) ![]() Pictures from the trip in July. http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/564179675bxbYXm Weather http://www.accuweather.com/us/in/tell-city/47586/city-weather-forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&u=1&traveler=1 Waypoint for park entrance - N38 12 00.5 W86 35 51.6 Waypoint for Overlook Restaurant - N38 12 18.1 W86 21 10.4 http://www.theoverlook.com/
