trips - Elk Buglin': Quehanna TrailTrip Info
DescriptionThe Quehanna Trail is one of PA's best. It defines expansive isolation with beautiful streams, excellent camping, and the opportunity to hear the elk bugle, or maybe even see them. PA's wild elk herd is expanding into the Quehanna region, and the rut lasts from September to October. Another highlight of this trip will be the fine fall foliage. This trail features the 50,000 acre Quehanna Wild Area, Marion Brooks Natural Area, Parker Dam State Park, massive boulders, and beautiful mountain streams, including Wykoff, Red, and Mix Runs. The QT is a 78 mile loop; obviously, we will not hike all of it, but will choose a loop with one of the cross connector trails, or do a section of the loop. The southern half of the QT's loop is easy - moderate with gradual changes in elevation. The northern hlaf is more difficult as the trail climbs in and out of several gorges and glens. The trail crosses several sizable streams, most with bridges. This trip will be epic...everyone's welcome!!!
