DescriptionI've called the park and the group camping site is open at the moment. I'll be sending my reservation application out today and hope that no one else is doing the same thing. The back up date is the weekend prior fri-mon. labor day weekend is a full moon so the island should be amazing at night. The last time I camped there it was a full moon and from the top of the dune by my tent I could see the entire 3 mile long island glowing in the moonlight. There will be beach goers there during teh day, but all but the campers will be leaving on the last boat at 6pm. Hammocks Beach State Park » Welcome! No Protected Swimming Area / No Concession Stand On Bear Island ... details ± Due to budget cuts, Hammocks Beach State Park will NOT have any lifeguards on duty on Bear Island until further notice. Visitors will be able to swim at their own risk. PLEASE by aware that rip currents can occur at any time and can be extremely dangerous. The concession stand will also be CLOSED until further notice. PLEASE bring any soft drinks and snacks with you to the island. Indoor showers on Bear Island are closed, but drinking water, outdoor showers and restroom facilities are open.
