Description*this trip is a work in progess* Completed itinerary: If arriving Friday September 12, e-mail me at twigeater@backpacker.com for directions to my house Saturday, September 13, Hidden Springs Sunday, September 14, Avalanche Field Katahdin climb, weather permitting Monday, September 15, Avalanche Field OR Isle au Haut Without driving the perimeter road to the other side, there’s South Turner mountain to hike from there, which has great views. There’s also the nature trail and moose watching opportunities in Sandy Stream and Whidden Ponds. And the hike into Katahdin Lake. Tuesday, September 16, Isle au Haut Arrive Stonington and catch the ferry to Isle au Haut Wednesday-Saturday, September 17-20, Isle au Haut whatever to do on Isle au Haut: 18 miles of hiking trails, a fresh water pond, foraging for mussels, crab and maybe clams (we'll check for red tide first) Participants limited to 14 at BSP and 18 at Isle au Haut. Estimated costs: BSP - $10 entrance fee for non-residents. $8/per night for less than 12, $4/per night for more than 12. Total = $18-26 each for non-residents, $8-16 for Maine residents. Isle au Haut - $25 per lean-to, each lean-to holds 6. We'll get three. Total $75 divided by number of participants. Miss Lizzie - $32 round trip, plus parking of $3-7/day. That doesn’t include toy rental or lobster feed. Please be prepared to observe all BSP and Isle au Haut rules, i.e. no dogs or electronics, and trail closings. BSP rules Thanks!
