trips - Savage GulfTrip Info
Description(1/13/04 Evening) Update 21 people are allowed TOTAL PER CAMP AREA. This includes other visitors. I haven't talked to the Ranger, but here's the new plan. Friday night: Group camp at Collins West. Spillover to Collins East. Saturday night: Permit where you want/are allowed. I suspect this will be a mixture of Saw Mill and Stage Road and possibly Savage Falls. My plan: Arrive at Collins West about 8 am on Friday. Hike in, setup camp, drive to Savage Ranger Station for earlier decided on meeting at 9am. Shuttle vehicles to Stone Door. Hike to Collins West and hang out with everyone. Saturday, I'm hiking to Saw Mill and exploring the rest of the day. Sunday, hike back to Savage Falls and then help retreive vehicles. Permit as you please since it's first come first serve. Out! (1/13/04) Update The route is being reworked. Stage Door is likely out of commission. Also be aware that on the threads we have posted many times that too many folks are signed up. Be forewarned that folks after #21 will be re-routed to other campsites. Also, permits have to be obtained at the Ranger Station. They DO NOT ACCEPT reservations. If they did, I'd have done this back in October when this trip started. (12/1/03) Update Meet at 9am CST at Savage Ranger Station. Shuttle to Stone Door. Friday: Hike from Stone Door to Collins West (8.7 miles) Saturday: Collins West to Stage Road (7.1 miles) Sunday: Stage Road to Savage Ranger Station (6 miles) (10/15/03) Finalized date to move trip away from the Ocala trip to ease the drive and trip planning on folks. (10/15/03) It looks like Savage Gulf has won out. I'll start researching the area. (10/14/03) I have never been to Fierry Gizzard or Savage Gulf. stikmon and some others have suggested getting a trip up, so here goes. I have no idea about dates, so I just picked one. We can adjust as needed. Anyone interested in going?
