DescriptionIthaca - Now, a/k/a WOODSTOCK WEST! Robert H. Treman State Park RD #10 Ithaca, NY 14850 Phone: (607) 273-3440 THIS IS WHERE WE ARE STAYING!!!!!! Robert H. Treman State Park an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. Campers can choose from tent or RV sites or cabins. Enjoy nine miles of hiking trails, or swim in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall. Swimming is allowed in lifeguarded area only. Directions: Route 13, 5 miles south of Ithaca, on Route 327. South end of Cayuga Lake. Seasons/Hours: Open year round. Camping season runs from mid-May to November 30. All gorge trails close November 10. Bow hunting for deer is permitted in season. Pets: Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Certificate proof of rabies inoculation. Not allowed in bathing areas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Must See Waterfall: Taughannock Falls State Park 2221 Taughannock Road Trumansburg, NY 14886 Phone: (607) 387-6739 THIS IS FOR DAY TRIP ONLY!!!!!! Taughannock Falls State Park's namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail. Campsites and cabins overlook Cayuga Lake, with marina, boat launch and beach nearby. A multi-use trail--hiking, cross-country skiing--winds past sledding slopes and natural skating ponds. Boat Launch Site not suitable for any type of sailboat. Directions: Route 89, 8 miles north of Ithaca. Seasons/Hours: Open year round. Camping season runs from the last weekend in March to mid-October. The rim trail closes in winter; the gorge trail remains open. Bow hunting for deer is permitted in season. Pets: Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Ok, I originally thought this would make a good BPing trip, but they want us to use their sites up there and car camping looks like the way to go. There are gorges and waterfalls galore there. It is an absolutely breath taking area to visit. Cornell U is there and also has a gorge running through it. I thought that trails would make for a great series of day trips, operating out of a centralized camping area in either one of the parks. The costs are minimal and potential here is high, people!
