trips - Big Creek to Walnut BottomsTrip Info
DescriptionFri.26 I plan to get there about noon set up camp at Big Creek.Day hike to Mt.Sterling fire tower..12 miles round trip..Big Creek campsite is first come basis but has a camp fee. Sat. 27 break camp hike Chestnut Branch trail to the AT over Mt.Cammerer(stop to see the awesome fire tower of course)take Low Gap Trail to campsite # 37 at Walnut Bottoms.Free .I have reservations for 4 but we could probably get more if we need them..9-10 miles Sun 28 hike back to Big Creek..5-6 miles.. moderate to strenuous elevation gains and loses..plenty water sources Hope you can join me.. Update......3/22 Yam..thought I would spread a little "trail magic" on Friday instead of Sterling..MileMonster and double nickles are planning on reaching the end of the Smokies by the weekend..I think I will drop some stuff at Davenport shelter and go on to do the same at Cosby shelter..maybe I'll run into them..this is so exciting!!!
