trips - Land Between the LakesTrip Info
DescriptionLast year I did the whole North-South Trail in 3 days (67 miles) as an endurance challange. This time I plan to do just the Northern half and slow it down and cover it in 3 days. It will be 30 miles from The North Welcome Station to Golden Pond Visitors Center (10 miles a day Average). The Terrain is pretty easy with the biggest hills only being a 200 gain. Water is plentyful and there are shelters along the way. Origionally I planned to walk from Golden Pond to the north end but because a couple of people won't be there till Friday night and LBL don't want to sell permits through the mail it tossed a monkey wrench in the plan. Plus the people comming in on Friday night would be parking on a Forest Service Road. NEW PLAN We meet Friday morning at GOLDEN POND VISITORS CENTER at 9:00 a.m. (Centeral time). Those that don't have a permit yet can buy one then. After buying the Permits we'll Shuttle back to the North Welcome Station and start walking. At about 9 miles we well come to a road that will take us to Ferry Landing and we will camp there. The Late arrivals can park there and leave their cars. I'll have my FRS radio with me and it'll be on channel #1. Saturday night we will probably camp at Buzzard Wing Shelter. Sunday we will have about 8 1/2 miles to go to get to Golden Pond.
