trips - Giving Thanks - Allegheny JohnnyCake/Tracy RidgeTrip Info
DescriptionWell, well. Looks like I'm coming out east (well, as east as I've gotten). I will be leaving ths area early evening on Thanksgiving Day and arriving hopefully around 6 hours later that the Tracy Ridge campground for late night happenings. 1st day - Seeing that there is many ways to get to either Hopewell or Handsome lake campground, the path to get there will be flexible. If there is a lot of people, I would hope everyone would choose one of the many trails to get there, as there are a bunch. So, we depart from Tracy Ridge CP, and how ever you get to the two campgrounds is you to you. Details can be firmed up when everyone gets to Tracy Ridge and altered on a as need basis. 2nd day - From wither Handsome Lake or Hopewell Camgrounds, we will make our way back to the Tracy Ridge CP. Once there, we will then leave Tracy Ridge and retire, by car to the Red Bridge CP to the south to enjoy views and brews. -------------------------------------------------- ****UPDATE 11/12/04**** Seeing as some might not want to drive all that way to sepnd just one night on the trail, would it be safe to say that everyone would like to spend two nights instead? I believe that there are plenty of spots on the NCT part of the trail. Maybe this is something to concider? -------------------------------------------------- *****UPDATE 11/15/04***** The NCTA Website reports that the Red Bridge Access/Campground is closed, starting today, and running through the Spring. -------------------------------------------------- This will be a casual hike with tons of flexiblity. The only things I reserve are: I reserve the right, due to numbers, to close the trip. I'm thinking anything over 14-16 might get a little crazy, but you never know; however, I'm not a "numbers Nazi". Sorry, but the dates are not flexible. These are the only times I can get that amount of time to do a trip like this. -------------------------------------------------- ****UPDATE 11/12/04**** For some odd reason, I didn't re-check the map links until today. Seems as though I had posted them through a hotmail 'situation', which doesn't allow anybody to view them. Sorry about that! Any way, here's a link to a good map of the whole system. Beware! It's a pdf file! http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/allegheny/brochure_maps/jnyck.pdf -------------------------------------------------- *****UPDATE 11/17/04***** Here's another map that shows the whole region. pdf file! http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/allegheny/maps/location_maps/vicinitymap.pdf -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- #####Update - 11/20/04##### Here's a link of the Tracy Ridge Campground (pdf file): http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/allegheny/brochure_maps/trcrdg98.pdf Figure we'll just camp where ever we can. Seems big enough. -------------------------------------------------- We'll see ya out there! rderminer@hotmail.com
