trips - Knobstone TrailTrip Info
DescriptionHey, we have a 3-day weekend coming up so why not use it to hike the longest foot trail in Indiana. This link will take you to the home page of the Knobstone Trail which includes directions to the trailhead and detailed maps. Maps are 7MB pdf's so consider yourself warned. The site also gives instructions on how to get a full color paper map on waterproof paper, for $4, if your interested. Info: Knobstone Home Page The trip will start at the southern most point of the trail at the Deam Lake TH on Friday night. As we straggle in, or first thing Saturday morning, we can shuttle vehicles to the end of the route so we can thru-hike the trail as opposed to doubling back half-way through. Anybody who opts not to spend Friday on the trail can catch the group at the Jackson Rd. TH which is about 4.75 mi. into the trail. We will be ending at the Leota TH, roughly 24.5 miles. Those who want to cut out a day early on Sunday can shuttle to the New Chapel TH which is about 16.75 miles. According to the web site, and the map, water can be scarce, so plan ahead. The only spots I noticed on the map for caching, other than the obvious TH's, was State Road 160, around mile 11, and Pixley Knob Road, near mile 9. New Chapel TH, near mile 17, appears to be the last place to cache before the final leg of the trip.
