trips - Devil's Path (Eastern Portion)Trip Info
DescriptionThis is a last-minute trip that has come up as a result of the falling apart of the Hawk Mtn trip in PA. Sorry for the last-minute notice, but if you can make it, you're more than welcome to come along. Sat 23 Oct: We will meet at the Prediger Road Trailhead (east end of the Devil's Path) located off of Greene County Route 16 about 2 1/2 miles west of West Saugerties, NY at 10 AM. We will hike on the Devil's Path over Indian Head Mtn (3573 ft), Twin Mtn (3640 ft), and Sugarloaf Mtn (3800 ft) and camp at/near the leanto in Mink Hollow about 9.2 miles from the trailhead. Gross Elevation Gain: about 3200 ft. Sun 24 Oct: We will continue the hike westbound on the Devil's Path over Plateau Mtn (3840 ft) and end at NY-214 in Stony Clove Notch about 4 1/2 miles from the leanto we started at. Gross Elevation Gain: 1200 ft. The weather forecast for Saturday is looking real nice, and the trail is loaded with lots of good views. Hope to see you there if you can make it on such short notice. SPECIAL HUNTING SEASON ADVISORY According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), deer hunting via archery (bow/arrow) is permitted in the Catskills during this weekend. There is no big game hunting at this time via firearms though. I have never had a problem going into the woods during archery hunting, but I just thought I'd let everyone know to dress as they feel necessary.
