trips - Walls of Jericho BushwhackTrip Info
DescriptionUPDATE 11/29/04 I've had 5 conflicts pop up this morning for the trip weekend. I'm not going to make this one. Some folks are still going. I'm going to reschedule for Jan/14-16. It's on the trips page. DIRECTIONS The nearest town will show up as Hytop, AL. Find AL 79 and head north. The trailhead will be the last left hand turnoff. If you see the TN state line then you've gone too far. CAMP The current plan is to camp in a large field that's fairly close to the mouth of the walls. I'm planning on printing out maybe a 24"x42" banner that says Trail Talk or something similar. I'll hang this in camp on Friday for folks coming in during the day. We'll probably use the banner as fire starter on Friday night. UPDATE There is a creek crossing after the 3.5 mile hike, but before the field where we'll camp. If it's wet the week before you need to be prepared for a very wet(waist deep?) crossing. I'm bringing extra clothes, just in case. Original post: I decided to post this on the trips page instead of the thread hunt and peck for info. Plan: Meet at the TH around 9am Friday. Hike in, setup camp, and explore for the afternoon. Sat we'll explore the actual Walls canyon. Sun hike out or explore more schedule dependant. Revision: There is a main campsite 3.5 miles in. The main one is next to a cemetary. There is also a large field. We'll camp in the field. This is an off trail bushwhacking trip. It will be low mileage/high intensity trip. It is hunting season so wear orange. The size of this trip is getting on up there. This is NOT a whiskey fest like Savage Gulf turned into. I'm sure there will be a nip around the campfire, that's fine but remember that it's a dry county.
