trips - Snowshoeing Among the GiantsTrip Info
DescriptionHey, y'all, I'm thinking of going snowshoeing up in Giant Forest on Presidents' Day Weekend. Right now the snow is spotty but with a storm coming tomorrow and more hopefully on their way there should be plenty o' snow towards the end of February. So who wants to go tromp amongst the Giant Sequoias with me? :) The road to Giant Forest is generally in good shape and plowed. The terrain in Giant Forest is gentle and rolling. There are groomed cross-country ski trails which you can generally follow but stay to the side of the ski tracks as to not anger our fellow cross-country skiers... I do believe the Lodgepole Visitor Center rents out snowshoes for those not fortunate enough to own a pair, I'll check on that if you want me to! (note: it's Wuksachi Lodge that rents snowshoes and it's $18/day) I'm thinking of visiting a couple of my favorite trees and doing a loop starting near General Sherman and going out towards the Washington Tree. This route will be about 5 miles round trip and we'll see 4 of the 5 largest trees on Earth! If folks are interested in staying the night Lodgepole Campground generally has some spots plowed out.
