Description

Driving DirectionsHarrison Crawford State Forest is about halfway between Evansville, IN and Louisville, KY, on I64
Coming in from the West on I64 take Exit 92 (Carefree/Leavenworth)Take 66 south toward Leavenworth then left(east) on 62. Take a right (south) on 462 into forest. The Trailhead should be your first right.

Coming in from the East on I64 take Exit 105 Corydon. Go south on 135 to 62 then right (west) on 62 to 462 then south (left). Trailhead is first right.

Those coming in Friday night..you should be able to use your map and signage to easily find Pioneer Cabin. If you need more detailed directions, e-mail me.

Update 2/17/05 On Friday (3/4) we will meet at around 11 a.m.(EST)at the SR 462 Rock Creek TH. This is just north of point 4 on the new maps. It is 2 miles to the main loop. We will then hike southwest (counterclockwise) with the goal of hitting the Pioneer Cabin area by nightfall to meet up with those coming in Friday evening. We plan to camp at the Ohio River Shelter just south of Pioneer Cabin. This 1.5 miles for those coming in late. This will make a total of 11.5 miles on Friday, so we'll have to hoof it or hike into the evening.
3/5 We plan to get an early start and put in another 10-12 miles on Saturday depending on weather. This is one of the more rugged sections of the trail. We're not going to designate a camping site for Saturday night. We will just camp when we're ready and find water? We may end up with several camps depending on how much mileage people want to do.
3/6 This should leave around 4-6 miles on Sunday morning giving people plenty of time to get home. This is one of the easier sections of the trail.
Water If its dry,I plan to go early on Friday and drop water at Cold Friday Rd. and the road crossing at point 6. Is there water at Pioneer Cabin? If not maybe those coming in Friday could bring extra water for us? When its dry you can get water from the small ponds along the southeast section of the trail, but you may want a filter. If we get a lot of rain be prepared for a wet crossing of Potato Creek just south of Pioneer Cabin!

This is an annual trip a group of us make the first weekend of March, somewhere in the southern Indiana area, regardless of weather. I thought I'd open it up to others this year. This year we plan to hike the Adventure Hiking Trail in the Harrison Crawford State forest. Nice hardwood forests on rolling hills with 300-foot bluff overlooking the Ohio River. Approximatley 24 miles of trail. We plan to start on Friday morning/afternoon, then a full day of hiking Saturday and hike out on Sunday.
