trips - Yellow River St. Forest/Spring 2005Trip Info
DescriptionWe've done this before, folks. There were different routes in spring 2004 and fall 2004. Perhaps it will be different... perhaps not. This is an exact one-year anniversary of our first trip. Come one, come all. Meet new friends! And remember, lizs is also known as Trip Hostess Supreme. :-) MAPS Page of Iowa DNR Maps. Also, I will plot out our trek on my National Geographic mapping software once a route is decided. http://www.iowadnr.com/forestry/yellowriver.html ROUTES Friday 1. Fill up on any needed water at the "A-frame" information building. Go back onto pavement and immediately past that is a righthand turn you'll make. Park there. It's the forest headquarters/backpacker's parking lot. 2. I will have a number of routes to the first campsite, depending on what time you arrive and whether it's dark or light out. The hike could be anywhere from around 1 mile to around 2 miles. Saturday Mileage will be around 5 with options for more by changing the route for a scenic overlook, to go over a nasty hill on an unofficial trail and/or a hike after tents are set up. Sunday Mileage will be around 4, with options for less if someone wants to leave early. Will include some nice views.
