Description

Yam does Pennsy(lvania)!

Dates: May 17-18.

Get yer minds out of the gutter. It's not what you think. ;o) Yam is stopping in Pa for a few days before making her final push to Nirvana aka Maine.

Tuesday, we'll meet at 9am at the Dunnfield Parking Area off rt 80 West in the Delaware Water Gap in NJ. We'll do an 11 mile loop (informally known as the Pennsy Loop) that includes a climb up MT Tammany that offers sensational views, a pretty forest hike, a good chance to hear the wolves down below in the Lakota Wolf Preserve, a stroll around beautiful Sunfish Pond, and finishing up on the AT along the scenic Dunnfield Creek.

After the hike, we'll dine at The Texas Roadhouse in Easton Pa, about 40 minutes from the Delaware Water Gap. All are welcome to shower at my place in Easton before heading to the Roadhouse around 7pm.

Wednesday, we'll meet at 10am in Ricketts Glen State Park in Red Rock, Pa and hike the sensational 7 mile Falls Trail. There are almost 30 waterfalls on this loop and it has to be one of the best dayhikes in Pa. After the hike, we'll improvise on eats and drinks.

Come for one or both dayhikes or just come out for eats and drinks at the Roadhouse. I'll need to know by Monday night how many are coming to the Roadhouse so I can call ahead and get seats.

Directions:

Dunnfield Parking Area (also an AT parking area)
From NJ heading west: go rt 80 west and take the 2nd to last exit in NJ. I believe the sign says "Picnic Area." Turn right onto the ramp but do not take the immediate right into the first parking area. Continue down the ramp and turn right into the Dunnfield Parking Area. If you miss the exit, take the next exit (the last exit in NJ), go under 80 and get on 80 east about 2 miles to a U-turn. You used to be able to go through the Visitor Center parking lot but the center is closed due to flood damage.

From PA heading east: go rt 80 east and cross over the toll bridge into NJ. Go about 2 miles to a U-turn and follow the above directions.

Texas Roadhouse
from the Water Gap, go 80 west into Pa to exit 304 and take rt 33 south. Stay on 33 for about 28 miles and take the Freemansburg Ave Exit, which is the second exit after rt 22. At the light, turn left, go under the highway, and take the first left. You'll come right up to the Roadhouse, which is part of a mall that includes Lowes and Dick's Sporting Goods.

from rt 78, get on rt 33 north and the take the first exit (Freemansburg Ave). Go straight across Freemansburg Ave to the Roadhouse.
from rt 22, get on rt 33 south and take the 2nd exit (Freemansburg Ave). Turn left at the light, go under the highway, and turn left again, to the Roadhouse.

The actual address for the Texas Roadhouse is 4463 Southmont Way, Easton, PA 18045 Phone: 610-515-0225
It is new and Mapquest didn't recognize it.

Ricketts Glen
Ricketts Glen is about 30 miles north of Bloomsburg, Pa on PA 487. There are several ways of getting there, and there are some general directions on the website at Ricketts Glen State Park.
I can probably help if anyone needs specific directions.

by the way, this is the first time I posted a trip on the trips page so don't yell if I screw this up. :o)
