DescriptionTentative Itinerary South to North I chose this direction for two reasons. First of all, there are lots of open views of the gorge in the last few miles of the Northern section. If the weather cooperates it should be a pleasant and easy morning walk out—a nice end to the last trip of the year for any non-winter types. Secondly, and more to the point, I’m a bit of a sadist. This trail is pretty level overall. For the most part the altitude is above 1500, never reaching 2000. But there is one goodly hill directly at the Southern Terminus, looks like it climbs about 700-800 feet in the first mile. That’s what you get for joining one of my trips :-) Day 1: 12—14 miles. It looks like there is an established dry campsite just south of the Bradley Wales Picnic Area. There is a “Dependable” water source about a mile-and-a-half before this spot. Day 2: 10—14 miles. There are two established camps with dependable water sources in this range. Mileage is dependent on location of previous night’s camp. Day 3: 4-6 miles. We’ll have folks back to their cars early and that should get everyone home at a reasonable hour. Shuttling cars: I plan to be at the Northern Terminus no later than 8:00 am. If anyone, or two, would like to volunteer to meet me there we can be at the Southern Terminus by 9:00 to start hiking. Those arriving Thursday: There is an established campsite less than a half-mile North of the Southern Terminus.
