trips - Winterfest 2006Trip Info
DescriptionDust off your skis and snowshoes, start stocking up on the Hot Damn, we be partying! Winterfest 2006 is happening! After checking all the weather reports and talking with the Rangers we have decided to move camp to Mt Shasta. There is just too great a chance of rain and currently there is only 6" of snow on the ground now at Lassen. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo Come join us for some serious partying and snowcamping this New Years on Mount Shasta. The Tipi and stove will be set up at the Nubbins, just above Bunny Flat (see map below) Friday and Saturday night for celebrating, cooking and telling tales. We are currently planing to be there from the night of the 29th, through the first. Those dates may be extended a day or so, but right now thats the plan. This is a great trip for those wanting to learn more about winter camping......Easy access, about 3/4's of a mile to camp. No wilderness permits required and we can build a fire out side to supplement the stove in the Tipi. X-C skiers, snow shoer's and telemarkers will find plenty of terrain to play in. If you are into backcountry snowboarding, bring your board. There is even a Geocache for those of you that got a GPS for Christmas. If you have an FRS radio, set it to channel 7/0. We will be monitoring in case someone has difficulty finding us. Once again, wilderness permits are NOT required where we are camping. If you want to camp higher, in the wilderness area, you can self issue a permit at Bunny Flat. If you want to climb higher than 10,000', you will need a Summit Pass. Coordinates are approximately 41° 21.527N 122° 14.328W If you have any firewood please bring it, we can haul it in using the sleds. Big stuff for the outside fire and wood about 12" by 2" would help with the stove in the Tipi. Feel free to email me with any questions. Here are some links you will find helpful, maps, pictures of camp area, climbing and avalanche info and information on the Lemurians. I 5 through Mt Shasta directions.
