trips - John Muir Trail - SnowshoeingTrip Info
DescriptionThis is a 2 hour drive from Chicagoland so this is a day-trip. No overnight. Plan: Get a dreadfully early start, pound out 10 miles on the Blue Loop, and get back early enough for Christmas Eve with the family! Self registration at the trailhead at sunrise! If time turns into an issue (I must be back for Christmas Eve) then I'll do the Green Loop. Most excellent snowshoeing, I promise, but be prepared to be a whipped puppy at the end of the day. From Chicago: From the city take I-94 north to Highway 50 in Kenosha, WI. Go west (left) on 50 to Highway 12 (just before Lake Geneva). Take Highway 12 north (it curves west) to Highway H (you'll see the La Grange General Store). Go north (right) on H. The John Muir trailhead is approx. 1-1/2 miles on your left. http://my.execpc.com/%7Ejwamser/KettleSouth.html#John_Muir <-- Site with general information http://my.execpc.com/~jwamser/SouthernKettles/JohnMuir_2001.pdf <-- PDF Map of Trails Trail condition phone service says the Southern Kettle is a "winter wonderland". Sweet.
