trips - Lake Vesuvius Spring EruptionfestTrip Info
DescriptionComrades! Myself and another gentleman from Delaware have made plans for a three-day (early Friday-Sunday) backpacking trip at Lake Vesuvius located within the Wayne National Forest (Ironton District)of southern Ohio. The trails around the lake & adjacent forested areas should allow for a extensive hike. For those unfamiliar with Lake Vesuvius, it lies in a region that was one of this nation's premier producers of Iron in the 19th Century-and the telltale signs of this industry can be seen along the trails today. Old blast furnaces, cemeteries, chimneys, plus numerous limestone outcroppings complement any hike in and around the Lake. The backpacking trails Northeast of the lake takes you into the more rugged hills and forests that are common in South/Southeast Ohio. As a rough estimate, this hike should be about 20-25 Miles long. Nonetheless, if there are any other people interested in this hike, they are more than welcome to join. What better way to enjoy the early springtime than in the woods! It's ERUPTIONFEST time! Thanks-Fulcrum
