trips - April Fools Weekend on the Mid-State TrailTrip Info
DescriptionWe'll car camp at Rocky Gap State Park in MD Saturday night. The hike we will be doing is on the most rugged and difficult section of Pennsylvania's Mid-State Trail. We will be traversing a 16-mile narrow and sometimes knife edge ridge line of Tussey Mountain. The hike will be extremily rocky and quite strenuous, with a lot of scrambling and ledges. With that said, the hike will also be rewarding with some of the best view points in Pennsylvania. Many of the vistas along this stretch of the trail have been compared to those on the North Fork Mtn Trail (per the guide book) and to quote Jeff Mitchell in the Backpacking Pennsylvania book, "vistas that will take your breat away." You can read about this section in jmitch's book, backpacking Pennsylvania, he speaks highly of this section. Although, he says that you will either love it or hate it. :) The plan is to start on PA 326 and hike north to Everett, PA. Sunday, we'll do some exploration of Trough Creek State Park, which has lots of nice trails with views, some cool cliffs, balanced rock and the ice mine.
