trips - Appalachian Trail - RevisitedTrip Info
DescriptionThe meeting location will be Amicalola Falls State Park top of springer mountain on the 5th. I plan on driving in the 4th, driving to the top of springer and backtracking the AT to a shelter for the night. Hike on the Appalachian Trail until March 11th. Then shuttle a ride back to the cars on the 12th and drive out. Plan to hike to Hiawassee, GA. Total hiking mileage should be around 80 miles over rough terrain. Once we arrive at Hiawassee we can arrange for a shuttle to take us back to our cars (roughly a 2 hour trip) The other option is going out for x amount of days, and then backtracking. This would allow us to meet more people, but will have to walk on the same path as we walked in. Depends on how transportation works out. Reason for this trip: This will be a neat social trip allowing time to chat with the newbies heading out on their 6 month voyage. March 1st is a very popular start date in March. April 1st is also a popular start date. If you are a thru hiker remember back to how excited you were when you started hiking. Snicker to yourself on the heavy packs and ill fitting shoes. I was one of these hikers leaving March 1st back in 2004. If you’re interested let me know.
