trips - Cranberry Wildflowers and FishingTrip Info
DescriptionThis is mainly a trip for relaxation - the plan is to basecamp Friday and either walk around checking out the wildflowers or fishing or general dayhiking on Saturday returning to the same basecamp for Saturday night. Information on the area including directions: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/cranberrywilderness.html http://www.patc.net/hiking/destinations/cranbery.html A scan of the trail map from the "Recreation Guide for the Gualey District" : http://www.patc.net/images/cranbery.jpg topo quad maps : Webster Springs SE Woodrow Lobelia Hillsboro The campsite will be at the junction of the Middle Fork of the Williams River and McClintock Run - there is a good open area for a group near this location and that open area is the planned campsite. This is a bit over a 4 mile walk in as near as I can tell - I measured 4.25 using a Topo! map program. Elevation drop going in is approximately 1200 feet with the same going out as elevation gain over the 4+ miles. Some approximate waypoints: Campsite Trail Junction Parking The hike in is as follows: from the parking area (actually 2 parking areas across the road from each other a small one on the west side and a larger one on the east side of the road) head west on a link trail to reach the North-South Trail - turn right onto the North South Tr. heading roughly N until you reach the trail junction with the Middle Fork Tr. go west on the Middle Fork Tr. until you reach the campsite at McClintock Run.”
