trips - Giant Sequoias and High Country LakesTrip Info
DescriptionI'm hoping to find a couple people who'd like to join me on this trip in Sequoia National Forest and Sequoia National Park! We will carpool from my house in Springville up to the Summit Trailhead off of Hwy 190 in Sequoia National Forest. We'll hike to Alpine Meadow in the Golden Trout Wilderness the first day (6.5 miles). 2nd day Alpine to Maggie Lakes (6.4 miles). 3rd day Maggie into Sequoia National Park to Wet Meadow or Blossom Lakes (~10 miles). 4th day Blossom Lakes layover day - that way if one wishes to explore Ansel Lake or climb Vandever Mountain they can. 5th day Blossom to Hockett or Garfield Grove (~5 miles). 6th day Hockett to South Fork (~9 miles) where we'll either have left a car or my boyfriend can pick us up. Wilderness permits are required, but there is no quota since we're leaving from the Forest. Since we will be going into the park we will have to pay their $15 wilderness fee (it's on the honor system). I will obtain the permit, pay the fee, and also have a campfire permit (campfires will be allowed at Maggie and Hockett, but not Blossom). Group size is limited to 15. The Garfield Grove is one of the largest giant sequoia groves and it is also described as being one of the most beautiful old-growth wilderness groves. Not many people hike back to Blossom Lakes. I hiked to nearby Ansel Lake a few years back and it was gorgeous country back there. Here is that trip report... http://www.tarol.com/mosquitoandansel.html
