trips - The Bob Marshall 14 75thTrip Info
DescriptionI know this is a long ways off (next summer and all), but this date marks the 75th anniversary of perhaps one of the first marathon type dayhikes completed by Bob Marshall on July 15, back in 1932. I'd like to make an attempt to do this hike. The hike goes over 14 Adirondack peaks, 13 are on the 46er list, over 34.6 miles and boasts an impressive 15,500' of elevation gain and 14,850' of loss. The hike would start at the Garden, go over the Brothers and Big Slide, and drop down to Johns Brook Lodge, before climbing into Wolfjaws Notch. From here we would climb Lower Wolfjaw, before turning around and hiking the Range Trail to Mount Haystack. From Haystack we would hike to the junction with the Phelps Trail and over Mount Marcy on our way to Mount Skylight. From Skylight we would hike down to Lake Colden and hike up to Algonquin Peak, hitting Iroquois along the way. We would then take the spur trail up Wright before descending down to the Adirondack Loj, up Mount Jo, and finally finish back at the Loj. This will be a hike your own hike event, meaning everyone is responsible for themselves and everyone is free to hike their own pace. I don't know if I'll be able to complete the hike, but I think it will be fun to try.
