A Tent
Give me a good recommendation on a 2 person tent, probably 3 season. I'd like to keep it under 6 pounds and I can't afford something like a Hilleberg or Bibler right now. I think I would prefer freestanding too. I'm 6'2" and skinny.

StickmanWalking, I can think of no better tent that fits your criteria than the Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 3 CD. You should be able to get one for around $180.00. Around 5lbs. and loads of room for two.

AwefulSmall...NotReally,EspeciallyForJustOnePerson
LtHiker, the way I see it is the 8oz is half as small (duh) as my 16oz Nalgene, which I know I'll never use as a 1-person flask. Therefore, the 8oz will be ideal, imo, for 1-2 persons. The 4oz will be for myself as I certainly won't be drinking massive quantities of the contents...just enough to feel gooood. Thinking of the volumes from the perspective of just the numbers makes them *seem* small, but compare the numbers to the actual volumes from a Nalgene bottle and the true quantity becomes oh so apparent.

The Harder It Is.........The Smaller The Container
Of course, it I were bringing Schnapps or something of similar alcoholic content, my 16oz or 32oz containers would be more prudent.

It depends on the weather. If it's going to be cold and wet, I'll bring my normal pack to allow for the extra gear. I'll take it along anyway so you'll be able to check it out at my truck.

MSR Miniworks is being sold on Campmor.com for $50 plus 10 for s&h.; Its last years model but I've used it before and it works great. I'm looking for the price first I got luck and got a good name to. Its not the MSR Miniworks EX its just Miniworks. So thats where I got it.

I made some new gear over the last few weeks. I made a hydration pack for mountain biking with a leno mesh back panel, main compartment insulated with thinsulate and with a mesh pocket on the back to store some goodies. I used sil nylon around the thinsulate to protect it from sweat. I made a mesh inner tent to set up under a tarp with a sil nylon floor and lower walls, interior height 39" and 3X7 floor space. It folds up really small and weighs 12 ounces. I made a pair of detachable custom shoulder straps to put on any of my packs. They are much more comfortable than any off the shelf straps I've ever worn.

richb - got any pics of your inner tent?

I am working on nearly the exact same idea. I am just doing a triangle on both ends and about 3' x 7.5'. I'm using black silny from Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics for the floor. I still need to order a zipper - but I was contemplating velcro for the door. Is your door on an end or along the side.

My plan is to suspend it from the tarp, but if the weather is nice I can pitch it alone and sleep under the stars. I figured it would weight about 12 ounces when done.

Sorry, but I don't have any pictures. Someday, I need to get a digital camera. I put the door on the front because if I put it on the side like my Trekker Tarp insert has it's harder to get in and out with the tarp pitched in A frame fashion. I used a vertical zipper about 30 inches long. I didn't want to use velcro because it can get caught in the mesh and shred it. I think a zipper is better and easier to deal with. I probably could have made the floor dimensions a little smaller, but I wanted to have a little room to store clothing and a few small items and not have my bag rub against the lower walls too much. I think for an extra 2 ounces the additional room was worth it. Now, I have to sew some attachment tabs to my tarps so I won't have to suspend it from a cord. A cord works OK, but I'd like to attach it directly to the tarp.

I traded my new boots in at LLBean tonight, and at the factory store I picked up a biking shirt and a sleeping bag for $50. Target was good too, those mini tents are so cute! I got space saver bags that I've been wanting to try, and swash cloths.
