“Electronic Equipment Bank is a firm that sells, or used to sell, radios for hams and shortwave listeners in the Vienna, Va., area. Does anybody in that area know if they still exist?” 2:28:38 PM 12/23/03 Hello??? “Somebunny, ... anybunny?” 3:54:10 PM 12/23/03 “Careful, you never know what kind of bunny will answer... A Yellow Pages search for Vienna, VA turns up no listing.” 3:59:10 PM 12/23/03 “They seem to have disappeared. It was once a going outfit with a slick catalog and showroom filled with radio gear - enough to make ya salivate out loud. There's only one mail order gear place left: Universal Radio.” 4:01:26 PM 12/23/03 “Did you do a google search, Geo?” 4:02:39 PM 12/23/03 “Yeah, tried all that. It's strange because Appalachian Outfitters was in the same area and they've closed too. Northern Virginia must be drying up.” 4:05:07 PM 12/23/03 “Geo, I was just lookin gin the manhattan yellow pages. There is a little under 1/2 page of radio communication equipment & systems listings. Do you want me to e mail some of these to you or make some calls for you? Let me know what you want and I will, ok?” 4:14:32 PM 12/23/03 “My ex-partner is a ham & wants me to get a no-code tech lic. Think I will.” 5:18:59 PM 12/23/03 “Talk to your local ham radio club or RACES network about scheduled "hamfests" in your area. Those guys mostly solder for a livng, and once a year the old lady says, "no more toys till you get rid of the basement full you have now". Acres of "normal" gear, and I've also seen esoteric items such as infinity transformers, seeker heads from Sidewinders, and 3rd generation Soviet night vision. Why pay retail, when you can get bench tested used gear for ten cents or less on the dollar?” 3:39:22 AM 12/24/03 “Interesting posts treebeard and jeffers. All I'm looking for is a Sangean ATS606AP portable shortwave receiver. I can get it from Universal Radio in Ohio for $119 and change and $10 shipping, or $130 total. I did business years ago with EEB, which is a lot closer than Ohio, and had hoped to get back there one day and play in their showroom. But then again, the times I was there it was filled with geeks twisting knobs and I didn't get to play with the gear I wanted to play with. Most retailers do not carry much in the way of SW radios anymore. What I usually find is Grundig's crappier radios, aimed at unknowledgeable people who just want to dabble in SW and not be bothered with too many technical details or controls. The Sangean ATS606AP is small and light enough for backpacking, is digital, and will replace a Sony analog receiver I have carried for years. Thanks for the help guys.” 8:06:43 AM 12/24/03 “I'll make a couple of calls for ya, Geo! Hey, it can't hurt. Worst case scenario, I come up empty...” 8:10:04 AM 12/24/03 “I have a buddy who is a ham. Let me forward what you're looking for to him and see if he konws a place.” 8:11:17 AM 12/24/03 “Or knows, even...” 8:11:57 AM 12/24/03 Thanks guys “The radio I'm looking for is for shortwave broadcasting. Hams may or may not be familiar with it.” 8:39:24 AM 12/24/03 elrctronic Equipment Bank “The store is no longer open it closed as a result of a conflict between the owner Dick Robinson and the government. I used to work there part time and it was one of the most enjoyable jobs. Universal Radio is still open, HRO and now some more upstarts. Some new dual band 144/440 China transceivers now as low as 49 dollars you can even find them on eBay.” 11:09:37 PM 4/12/13 Electronic Equipment Bank “akline51 writes "“The store is no longer open it closed as a result of a conflict between the owner Dick Robinson and the government. I used to work there part time and it was one of the most enjoyable jobs.” Dick Robinson was convicted of tax evasion and sent to Federal Prison. This was the nature of his 'conflict' and why the business closed.” 9:31:50 AM 6/16/13 Electronic Equipment Bank “Correction to my earlier post: EEB went down due to the owner scamming the government due to equipment, batteries, and other things paid for but never delivered. Dick Robinson went to Federal Prison, and likely that was a major cause of the company shutting down.” 9:48:33 AM 6/16/13
