A less expensive bag could be used at higher temperatures. For the colder weather I would suggest a nice insert, wool socks, long Johns, fleeze pants and jacket, a wool blanket over the sleeping bag or any combination of these items. Just like wearing layers of clothing, one can use layering in your bed roll.
