Big Agnes Horse Thief Sleeping Bag
Anyone have any experience with this bag? I am trying to reduce pack weight and I see that this bag only weighs 27oz but it is also only rated to 35degF because it relies on your sleeping pad to furnish insulation on the ground. Most of the time 35degF is fine but I was thinking that I could wear a down inner layer jacket and pants in the sleeping bag to increase its rating so it would be comfortable down to 20degF if the temperature dipped unexpectantly? Any comments would be appreciated.

I have a Horse Thief and like it. I used it for the first time last Memorial Day weekend in the Whites of NH. There was still a considerable amount of snow and the other people in the shelter froze. I was toasty. The only drawback that I've encountered is that it's cut pretty narrow. With a 1 inch pad inside it fits me snug around the chest and shoulders. I don't think I'd be able to wear a puffy jacket inside.

I have one and love it. Very true to temperature rating. I don't have issues with the girth and actually consider it to be very roomy for as lite as it is (I'm not necessarily a small chick). My only complaint is that I don't like the draft collar; it's always flipping into my face. I'd probably complain about the draft w/out it though. =)

Incidently, REI has this bag on sale right now. Regular is $124.93 and Long is $139.93

How can I resist?

I thought your sleeping pad was always relied upon to furnish insulation on the ground.
