“In 2006 there was a hiker who passed out at a restaurant. He was on medicine for high blood pressure and fainted right in the middle of his meal. He went to the hospital and got checked out.

To make a long story short, during his hike he lost weight and his cardio improved. He ended up not even needing his medicine.”

“I've changed my start date to around March 7th. I wish I could move it sooner, but I need the money from working until then. I don't know how people who decided to thruhike a year or more in advance can stand this. Its all I think of all day long.”

“It is hard to wait. Time both drags and flies. When you get close to the wire, one day you look around and scream, "I'll never get it all done in time!" The last few days are insane. If at all possible, don't work until the day before you leave. Give yourself at least one day of slack before you travel to the trail. It's amazing how many last minute details there are.”

“I resigned as of March 5th, but I may do as Ginny suggests and quit one day earlier. I don't have anything lined up for when I get back. I'll just see what Life offers up.”

“Last night we started packing up our apartment, separating our AT gear from our PCT gear. We have our food packed for the first 3 days and most of what we are putting in a box to Fontana. It's starting to feel real.

Of course, when I look out the window at the fields of white, it feels more surreal. How crazy are we to be heading to Springer right now? Snow is 1-3' deep on the trail, maybe more. A hiker who got lost last weekend said the rescue party was breaking through snow drifts shoulder deep. That's nuts.

But our lease us up on the 28th. So off we'll go. I hope we see some of you out there.”
