for the last couple years I have been playing with the idea of a sling chair I can take backpacking. The Slinglight chair was one of the starting points for the idea as was a bushcraft tripod based chair. Mainly I wanted to have a chair I could put up fairly quickly, didn't weigh too much (aimed for 4 ounces), was comfortable and high enough so that I could get out of the chair easily (one of the downsides of the Slinglight chair is that it is hard to get out of). Anyways here is a thread about what resulted: http://hikinghq.net/forum/showthread.php?7264-A-Simple-Sling-chair

That is so cool! You should market that sling thing!

not going to market it - its mainly a DIY type thing anyways - ie hem a piece of fabric, put a channel in it for the front stick, add a few lines, two trekking poles and a tree and you have a comfortable chair

NC - many people do like that one but I wanted one I could lean back in and have my head supported for a nap

You don't have trouble getting out of a butterfly chair. It's like a drinking governor - when you've had too much you fall on the ground embarrassed and crawl off to the tent.

I like your chair HOI. That's one of those pieces of gear everyone in camp would be jealous of.

there will be another video RSN on how to make the chair but if anyone wants a head start on making one just let me know here and I'll try to answer your questions. The actual making of the chair is fairly easy if you have a sewing machine. Although I used DynaGLide UCRs for a lot of the chairs I made that is only a convenience - any low stretch line can be used plus a tree strap or even using mule tape instead of a tree strap. For example the adjustable loops, cross ties and antislip lines could be 1.8 mm Spyderline and the primary suspension could be 2.8 mm Spyderline to a tree strap or just use mule tape for the primary suspension.
