A Simple Sling chairView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 14 of 14 messages posted.
“for the last couple years I have been playing with the idea of a sling chair I can take backpacking. The Slinglight chair was one of the starting points for the idea as was a bushcraft tripod based chair. Mainly I wanted to have a chair I could put up fairly quickly, didn't weigh too much (aimed for 4 ounces), was comfortable and high enough so that I could get out of the chair easily (one of the downsides of the Slinglight chair is that it is hard to get out of). Anyways here is a thread about what resulted: http://hikinghq.net/forum/showthread.php?7264-A-Simple-Sling-chair” 5:50:36 PM 12/12/12 “That is so cool! You should market that sling thing!” 6:00:50 PM 12/12/12 “I really like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0063BNNI6?ie=UTF8&force-full-site;=1&ref;_=aw_bottom_links” 6:01:39 PM 12/12/12 “not going to market it - its mainly a DIY type thing anyways - ie hem a piece of fabric, put a channel in it for the front stick, add a few lines, two trekking poles and a tree and you have a comfortable chair” 6:09:57 PM 12/12/12 “NC - many people do like that one but I wanted one I could lean back in and have my head supported for a nap” 6:10:59 PM 12/12/12 “That would be a dream come true!” 6:13:34 PM 12/12/12 “Nice and 4 ounces!, pretty dang cool HOI” 6:14:47 PM 12/12/12 “Nice! I just sit on a rock or log” 7:32:26 PM 12/12/12 Pretty cool “You always gotta make an ASS outta yourself.....” 4:36:15 AM 12/13/12 “You don't have trouble getting out of a butterfly chair. It's like a drinking governor - when you've had too much you fall on the ground embarrassed and crawl off to the tent. I like your chair HOI. That's one of those pieces of gear everyone in camp would be jealous of.” 6:52:14 AM 12/15/12 “How much does the tree weigh?” 8:35:33 AM 12/15/12 “tree - pack weight is zero” 10:39:29 AM 12/15/12 “there will be another video RSN on how to make the chair but if anyone wants a head start on making one just let me know here and I'll try to answer your questions. The actual making of the chair is fairly easy if you have a sewing machine. Although I used DynaGLide UCRs for a lot of the chairs I made that is only a convenience - any low stretch line can be used plus a tree strap or even using mule tape instead of a tree strap. For example the adjustable loops, cross ties and antislip lines could be 1.8 mm Spyderline and the primary suspension could be 2.8 mm Spyderline to a tree strap or just use mule tape for the primary suspension.” 10:52:41 AM 12/15/12 “videos on how to make the ASS chair with many thanks to SGT Rock for making them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v;=OLuuZNg7pQw http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v;=UvaetcCg588 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v;=aysXBj740rk” 1:46:22 PM 12/24/12
