I changed over to using a slanted pole instead of an upright pole for my hammock stand today - an idea I got from the Handy Hammock. I wanted to see if it would reduce the footprint and it worked out quite well.

Here is a pic of the over all hammock stand:

Here is a pic of the new baseplates for the poles:

The ground anchors used were The Claw - see link: http://www.theclaw.com/index.php

The poles used were two segment top rail chain link fence poles pinned together with a linchpin.

The lines were mostly DynaGlide UCRs.

What is the pole, is that an aluminum scaffolding pole? Something just wrong about hammocking in the sun ;v)

the pole is as I said above: "The poles used were two segment top rail chain link fence poles pinned together with a linchpin."

the material for the pole is galvanized steel

it is segmented so that the whole thing can fit in the trunk of a Honda Civic - ie nothing longer than 4 feet.

hammocking in an open field is great for watching meteors

did some more playing with the stand on sloping ground - still seems to be a good approach - I also played with the pole angles - uphill pole of 56 degrees from horizontal and downhill pole of 78 degrees from horizontal worked just as well as the 65 degree on both poles
