Steve Longley - the AT Maine Ferryman di edView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 5 of 5 messages posted.
“Maybe someone already posted this, but I only heard about it today. Steve Longley, who ferried people across the Kennebec River in Maine for about 20 years. died this March. He was a kind and very helpful guy and only 55. He ferried my son and I across the river in '99, I still remember him for his kindness and his willingness to go out of his way for hikers. I didn't know his father had been governor of Maine until I read the article. http://bangordailynews.com/2013/03/06/outdoors/longtime-appalachian-trail-ferryman-dies-unexpectedly/” 7:32:10 PM 4/07/13 “Actually it was 2000, now that I think about it. I went north from Monson in '99 with my son, and we covered Monson to Grafton Notch in 2000. Nice statement memorial to Steve re-posted to on Whiteblaze by attroll: http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/content.php?725-Hiker-offers-fond-memories-of-Steve-Longley” 7:09:35 AM 4/08/13 “Thanx for that ped. I missed him in '92. Squeaky G, Pigpen, and I crossed the old fashioned way .... went about 200 yards upriver and crossed at a wider spot the old fashioned way. Steve wasn't there at the time we arrived.” 6:52:29 AM 4/10/13 “That's the route I saw a guy take the second time I did that section. I was content to hang out that morning and wait for the canoe.” 7:16:36 AM 4/10/13 “Too sad, 55?? I guess just one more to river to cross, rest in peace.” 11:07:40 AM 4/11/13
