Spring Hiking! - Wapack TrailView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 6 of 6 messages posted.
“Wapack Trail - Mass/New Hampshire 21.4 miles 5K elevation gain There's still snow on most of the good trails in New England. 3 - 5 feet at some spots in the mountains - but on some of the trails in Southern New Hampshire the snow and ice have retreated to small shaded spots on the north sides of the mountains. So, it is now my Spring tradition to hike the Wapack Trail which extends from Mass into southern New Hampshire. This is the earliest I've done it. I met up with 10 other hikers at the southern end, left cars there and one in the middle (with coolers and a watermelon) and headed to the northern terminus to start hiking. We had some snow and ice in New Hampshire, but it was easy to avoid. The fastes group I've gone with did it in 8 hours, the slowest was 12 hours - Saturday was in between - it took us 10 1/2 hours. we had great views and I got to shake some of the cob webs out. Not a lot of pics taken, but here's a couple: ” 8:08:57 AM 4/29/13 “Like” 5:15:18 PM 4/29/13 “” 1:30:11 AM 4/30/13 “Thanks, pedxing. It looks like an interesting location for backpacking.” 5:39:58 AM 4/30/13 “For backpacking there is only one legal place to overnight and that is at shelters managed by the Windblown Ski area - though I have seen some stealth camping at other spots. PS: That is Mount Monadnock in the background - supposedly it is the most climbed mountain in this country. Some say second only to Fuji in the world.” 7:57:43 AM 4/30/13 “looks like lots of places to stealth camp using a hammock” 9:38:17 AM 4/30/13
