The College Football thread
As some of you know, I am a die-hard Florida GATORS fan. I?ll be going to watch the number one ranked college football team in the nation play next week. I?m going to enjoy that ranking while I can. Last year the GATORS had THE toughest schedule in the nation according to the BCS rankings. This year it doesn?t get any easier as the GATORS play eight bowl teams and will likely have THE toughest schedule once again.

College football is so much more exciting than anything the pros have to offer. If you?ve never attended a big-time college football game, I highly recommend it for the incredibly loud, highly emotion charged atmosphere. It?s one of only a few events in world that I like to be entertained by.

Interesting facts:
During the last five years the SEC (Southeastern Conference) has had the best bowl record, the most ranked teams, the largest attendance, and has the most players in the NFL. Overall, the SEC has a winning bowl record against every league in the nation. This year the big twelve is making a run at actually being a top-tier league with four legitimate bowl teams. The Texas/Oklahoma game should be something. The GATORS may not win it all this year, but we?re going to have some great games to watch.

IT?S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!

UNM Lobos are perenial underdogs with the likes of Utah and BYU. If they have a competitive team, its fun. Almost made a bowl last year, team looks stronger this year.

It'll be interesting to watch Alabama with the new coach. My parent live in FSU Seminoles territory, so the rivalry with the Gators is always fun to watch.

Q: Which conference is known as the "Conference of Champions"?

A: The SEC? HA! Pac-10 members have claimed an incredible 59 NCAA team titles over the past seven seasons, for an average of more than eight championships per academic year.

Those 59 team titles over the past seven seasons have come in 21 different men's and women's sports. The Pac-10 has now led the nation in NCAA Championships 36 of the last 41 years and finished second four times.

The Pac-10 has captured 311 NCAA titles (238 men's, 73 women's), far outdistancing the runner-up Big Ten Conference's 185 titles.

Steve Hiker, you must be a wrastling fan. Ever met Spurrier? I have, and he's a nice guy. He runs a very clean program. The sports writers need to have their black hats because they think it generates controversy. Methinks you've been buying into the propaganda. Spurrier doesn't say, "Aw shucks, Vanderbilt has a great team and we need to be prepared for them", like some coaches will. He speaks his mind. Personally I find his honesty refreshing. Bet you'd like Bill Clinton for coach of your team, Steve.

Florida/Florida State is a great rivalry, pathman. This year will be no different.

Penn State was my favorite team growing up, baume. Jopa is a classy guy. You know that he's good friends with Spurrier?

Big Ten? More like the teeny-weeny winky-tinky ten. Michigan is their highest rated team at 12? Oh the shame! The small ten is weak, and has a loosing bowl record against the SEC. Dream on you small ten dinks! Booya!

This is football, kleetn you creetn. The Ducks and Beavers? Ooooh, I'm scared now!

The only other concerns I have with college football have to do with IU and that WisconSIN school. Who knows, maybe when (If... I don't know the schedule) they play the stadium will explode and there will be no more Badgers or Hoosiers. *sigh* Wouldn't that just be heaven.

Buddha, you crack me up. There are no good teams in the small ten. This is a league that traditionally has been dominated by Michigan and OSU. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and Florida have all won national championships since they stopped using leather helmets. The small ten is a has-been league and it STILL has an all-time loosing record against the SEC.

Watch carefully as Miami beats the snot out of PU. Big-Ten=Looser!

Oh boy! This is shaping up into a FINE college football season already. Boola-boola, boola-boola...

Hey Matt, when I applied to college (beleive it or not) I applied at both Virginia and Va. Tech. I even visited both campuses. I was accepted to both and then decided on my first choice, FLORIDA!

I'd love to see the Hokies/Gobblers beat up on Miami, but that's the only tough game they've got. The road to the national championship ought to be tougher than the Hokies' schedule. Then again, FSU gets a cream puff conference schedule every year.

RE: The College Football thread
Well those are very nice stats, Buddah, but they're a little skewed. Miami is not in the SEC. Arkansas was in the Southwest Conference when they won their title. Georgia Tech was in the SEC at one point and may have won a title while in the league. I don't have my almanac with me.

Minnesota hasn't been a threat in years old timer. Illinois, you're joking, right? Iowa? Bwaaahaahaahaa. Look at the dates on those championships. Ancient history and easy to accomplish when you've got a weak conference.

What I said was, in head-to-head match-ups, the SEC has a winning record against every conference in the country, INCLUDING the teeny-tiny overrated ten. The small ten made the Rose Bowl a boring event. Now maybe we can have some good teams playing there.

What's OSU rated this year Buddah? Hey, isn't Northwestern favored to win the conference? Aaaaaaahahahahahahaha...

Oh, wait a minute. I guess not...

Florida schools are always over rated. Everyone knows this but Florida guys.

That state has more press writers per division 1 team than anyplace else--duh, no wonder they get the votes. With their schedules they'll always win 10 games--until they play eachother or a top team from a competitive conference.

Does Miami play Washington this year? Wash is rebuilding so maybe Miami will have a chance.

Fight song for the OSU weenies:

Oh it's great to be an OSU Buckeye...

That is what I truely want to be-ee-ee...

'Cause if I was an OSU Buckeye...

I could die and fall out of a tree.

Yeah right, sonrisas, Florida schools are overrated. Keep believing that as you watch the teams from around the country that all have players from Florida. Can you find Florida on a map? It's that huge hanging shaped thing that dangles from the end of the continent like a great big... And it takes a really big set to play for a Florida school (three of the top six teams).

Many Yankees have big mouths which they use loudly and often. The last time Penn State came down here they were going to teach the GATORS about smash-mouth football. The GATORS ran it up their gut all day long and keep them out of the end zone, two different times, when they had first and goal from inside the five. Those boys never seem to learn. The cold weather must have frozen their memories back in 1901.

Three different SEC schools won national championships in the '90s. Michigan got to share a title (and it wasn't '96) but everyone who knows football, knows that Nebraska was the best team that year.

Michigan fight song:

Hurl on the loosers...

Vanquished!

Hurl on the loosers...

Boo hoo!

Hurl, hurl, on Michigan

The loosers and munchkins...

Let us introduce you folks to Max Starks. At 6'-8", 360lbs, Max was just a little big to play linebacker at Florida, so we put him on the O-line where he could play with boys his own size. Ya'll come.
