I used an MRE spoon once. I was stiring with it and left it in the pot, turned away to grab something, turned back and found the spoon was still in the food but the handle was drooping straight down over the side of the pot.

I forgot, my perfect mug need measurements...down with spooning..up with forking! Oh, wait a minute...now that I think of it both can be done at the same time...

a long handle spoon would be great for freezer bag cooking, although plastic "Sunday" spoons would work too. Albeit, not a durable.

Ok, I'm not normally a fan of sporks, don't see the point, but this folding thing, sign me up! Finally I can put the spoon inside my pot, where it should be!

Very nice idea, but a spoon that's only 6.5 inches long......the bag eaters may not like it.

Not seen it at REI Ruby. I ordered it from the Brunton site.

The folding mechanism looks like it will be difficult to keep clean. To many traps for food particles.

having it on my desk, the slider thing locks it into position. It is a little short for the big bad meals, but just cut down the bags people!

Wow Y2 I never thought of that silly how sometimes you don't let yourself out of the box. I normally keep one bag and use it to store the trash of all my other bags. So the first night I might get my fingers a little dirty (like that really matters if your backpacking) after that just cut the bag.

Ruby

Geez Ruby, why is it always about length with you? For your information, it is 8-1/4 inches long---and that's before I pull on it.

found two of the folding brunton sproks last night on ebay selling for $.15 less and shipping was $3-4 cheaper. So I have two new sporks heading my way.

Yeah. They are a little flimsy but work well digging the last bite out of the bag.

I just chunk it when I get home and put another one in the food bag. Haven't had one break yet, but figure it is coming and I will be eating with a 1" spoon.

SirPete, How much do you want for your spare perfect spoon? I never should have told anyone about JimmySan's spoon prior to ordering one for myself! Now they don't have any and haven't had any for a long time. =(

I'll give you three dozen cookies (flavor your choice, just so long as they don't involve macadamia nuts) and $15....

I don't want an extend-able or fold-able utensil. I only want SirPete's and Jimmysan's long, titanium spoon. Until I procure one I will continue to fold my baggies down and use my ti spoon of normal length.

For your information, It's not just about the length. Size matter, too. ;)

Regarding cheap spoon alternatives, MRE spoons are good. They are a respectable 7" and stronger than plastic, but they can still warp and melt in a hot pot. So I like to carry an extra just in case.

I used my Swiss Army Knife to cut tines in my LEXAN spoon, heated and bent the handle so it clips inside my coffee cup--so now it's a "SPORKY."

LMAO!! Well, duh, what else do backpackers talk about on long hikes? Food.
On my last 18 miler, the last 5 miles involved what I was getting on my pizza when we got done ;-) When we backpack, it seems from breakfast to dinner all we talk about is dinner, on the way out it is about where we are stopping to eat. ;-)

I was gonna buy one of those ti sporks, and thne I thought about the liners in my pots and bowls. Any kind of metal spork, spoon, fork, knife, whatever will scratch up my teflon coating or the smooth, stick-free liner on my cookwear. This revelation saved me from purchasing Ti. I will stick to my Lexan and be at peace with the spork conundrum.
